Non-profits across the country benefit from CUTCO donation
Nov 17, 2008
Olean, N.Y., Nov. 17, 2008 - Nearly a dozen needy organizations across the country are benefiting from a donation of kitchen tools and cutting boards from CUTCO Cutlery Corp. The donation was made as part of the 15th annual TODAY Show Toy and Gift Drive.
The CUTCO donation, valued at nearly $18,000, was made through the Direct Selling Association (DSA), whose member companies have supported the TODAY Show drive since 2004.
One of the organizations receiving CUTCO products was L.A. Family Housing in North Hollywood, Calif. Ruth Devine, donations coordinator for that organization, said receiving the kitchen tools and cutting boards was a "dream come true."
"We are desperate for kitchen items," Ms. Devine said. "They will be given to residents who have completed our program and are moving into permanent housing. Many of them leave here with nothing and do not qualify for grants to purchase goods, so we do our best to help them with donated goods."
A total of 100 CUTCO kitchen tools sets - containing a slotted turner, slotted spoon, basting spoon, ladle and mix-stir - and 100 cutting boards were donated to the gift drive.
Along with the donations to L.A. Family Housing and another California location, donations went to organizations in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Montana and Washington, DC. There were 11 locations in all.
This is the third year that CUTCO, a DSA member company, has participated in the drive. Last year 52 DSA member companies participated in the drive, contributing more than $7 million in products and cash.
